Kevin M. Boutwell, 56
FITCHBURG -- Kevin M. Boutwell, 56, a longtime Fitchburg resident, died peacefully, Thursday, Jan. 31, in his home, after a three and one half year courageous battle with lung cancer. Despite his fight with cancer and cancer related issues, Kevin tried fiercely to maintain his independence, his dignity and his relationships with his family and his many friends.
Kevin was a fixture behind the bar at Fitchburg's Stattery's Restaurant for almost a quarter of a century, sharing the bartending and managing duties. Whether it was pouring a drink, or lending an open ear to a patron, he developed friendships and relationships with thousands of area residents over the years. Prior to working at Stattery's, he worked at Demoulas Supermarket, both in Leominster, and in Fitchburg, for many years.
Kevin was born in Fitchburg, on September 15, 1956, a son of the late Kenneth L., and Ruth F. (Powers) Boutwell Sr.
He was a long time member of the Fitchburg Irish-American Association, a Fourth Degree member of the Bishop Beaven Assembly, #296, and past Grand Knight of the Leominster Council of the Knights of Columbus #406, and a long time member of the South Fitchburg Social Club.
Kevin was a 1974 graduate of Fitchburg High School. He was a fan of all Fitchburg and New England Sports teams, and in the last month of his life, was able to see his beloved "Fighting Irish" of Notre Dame battle for a National Championship. When he was healthy, Kevin was an avid golfer, playing several times a week, and in countless charity tournaments with friends.
Kevin leaves two brothers, Kenneth L. Boutwell Jr., and his wife, Lynne, of Orange, MA and David J. Boutwell, and his wife, Julie, of Ashby, MA; a niece, Chelsea and four nephews, Shaun, Colin, Matthew and Jason. He also leaves his beloved "Slattery Family", his countless co-workers from over the years, whose friendship sustained him when he needed it most, including most notably, David Celuzza, Judy Belliveau and Mike Goodchild.
A special thanks to the Doctors and staff of the Cancer Center in Fitchburg, who provided health care and quality of life to Kevin.
A "Parting Glass" to you, Kev.
