WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VERMONT -- Leo George Thomas 89, passed away peacefully with his family present at the Veteran's Hospital in White River Junction, Vermont after a brief illness.

Preceeded in death by his much loved son Daniel Thomas and sweet lovely grand-daughter Jodi Thomas.

He is survived by his wife Cecile Leah Peters of 67 years currently of Rindge, N.H. and formerly of Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He survived by his siblings Theresa, and brothers Bobby, Henry, and John. Daughters Michele Thomas and husband Ralph of Mont Vernon N.H.; Becky Thomas Hutchinson and husband Jim of Winston-Salem, N.C. sons: John Thomas and wife Cindy of Fitchburg, MA; Mark Thomas wife Flora of Clinton, MO; Donald Thomas and wife Chris of Lakeville,MA. He also had 12 Grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Leo was a proud Veteran of World War II U S Navy. He served in both the Armed Guard and the SeaBees in both the Pacific & Atlantic Theatres. He was one of 5 Thomas brothers who also served during WWII. He continually tried to keep up with fellow veterans. He was proud of his sons who served and grandson Josh Hutchinson who is currently serving in the USN.

He worked at Simonds Saw and Steel for 10 years and then later at Fitchburg Paper for 25 years, always stopping off at TheDiner on River St. to have breakfast. While at Paper mill he helped organize the annual summer outings for families and kidsand also Franco AmericanClub at Saima Park. He was a member of St. Joseph's Club, Franco American Club and local Teamsters Union. He was an avid hunter, played pick-up hockey games and a member of the Paper mill golf league.

In later years he enjoyed going to breakfast, especially with his son-in-law Ralph Sommese. He made breakfast at home for everyone who came by. Leo always was always meeting new people, he would be making new friends in the grocery line. When he could not drive, he walked to the corner store about -- 1/2 -- mile from the house to get a paper and make more friends.

THOMAS -- A service of remembrance will be held On Jan. 12th at 2 p.m. at the 7th Day Adventist Church, 205 Summer Street, Fitchburg, MA.

- Future service will be held at the Veteran's National Cementary in Winchendon, MA at a future date.
