Louis 'Pin' Cannavino
of Leominster, WWll Vet; 89
LEOMINSTER -- Louis "Pin" Cannavino, 89 years old, of Leominster, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret C. (Crespin) Cannavino; two daughters, Jane A. Kennedy and her longtime partner, Dennis Wills of Leominster, and Karen M. Plotkin and her husband, John of South Deerfield; a brother, Frank Cannavino and his wife, Iona of Leominster; two grandsons, Andrew Plotkin of Worcester, and Matthew Plotkin of South Deerfield; several nieces and nephews.
Pin was born August 11, 1924 in Leominster, son of James and Maria (Palumbo) Cannavino and graduated from Leominster High School Class of 1944.
He was a World War II
Air Force Veteran, having served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater.
He had worked for the Department of Public Works in Leominster for many years and was the Assistant Director at the time of his retirement. He had previously worked for Cannavino and Shea Construction Company. Pin had been involved in Leominster Babe Ruth Baseball as a manager and coach for over 30 years. In 2007 the lower field at McLaughlin Park in Leominster was named the "Pin Cannavino Field". He was an avid sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Team. He loved working in his garden and he enjoyed horse racing.
Pin's family would like to thank the staff in the Intensive Care Unit at HealthAlliance-Leominster Hospital for the special care they gave to him and his family.
CANNAVINO -- Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 from 2-4 pm in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Funeral services and burial will be private.
