FITCHBURG -- Marion J. (O'Dea) Maki, 83, of Fitchburg, MA, passed away Saturday evening, March 15, 2014, in her home surrounded by all of her family.
She was born on May 23, 1930 in Fitchburg, MA, the daughter of John and Marion (Turgeon) O'Dea, and lived all of her life in Fitchburg. She attended and graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School, Class of 1948. She then attended the former Burbank School of Nursing and graduated in 1951 as a Registered Nurse.
Marion worked for the Burbank Hospital for 25 years as a registered nurse, and then became the Director of Nursing for Montrath of Groton. She retired in 1995 after over 40 years of nursing.
In her retirement, she along with her husband, Francis enjoyed making trips to Las Vegas where they had also renewed their wedding vows several years ago with all of her family there. She also enjoyed knitting and playing bingo. Her special enjoyment was nurturing her eight children, grand and great grandchildren. She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus and currently a communicant of St. Bernard Parish @ St. Camillus de Lellis Church in Fitchburg ,MA.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Francis Maki, her eight children, sons, Peter J. Maki of Worcester, MA, and Jeffrey M. Maki of Fitchburg, MA; her daughters, Karen Brassard and her husband, Steven of Fitchburg, MA, Sandra Femino and her husband, Peter of Leominster, MA, Pamela Pinault and her husband, Steven of Fitchburg, MA, Diane Korich and her husband, Lance of Westminster, MA, Leslie MacShane and her husband, Kenneth of Lowell, MA, and Brenda Johnnene and her husband, Philip of Fitchburg, MA.; her sister, Lorraine Maillet of Fitchburg, MA; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, seven nephews and three nieces.
She was predeceased by her grandson.
MAKI -- Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Parish @ St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St. Fitchburg, MA. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, MA.
