FITCHBURG -- Michael Champa, 86, of Fitchburg, died Monday, January 7, 2013 in the Golden Living Center.

Mike was born in Fitchburg on April 27, 1926, a son of the late Michael and Giovanna (Carbone) Champa. He attended St. Bernard's High School, and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mike worked as a truck driver for P.J. Keating for 31 years, until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, number 170. Mike also worked with his brother Tony at Economy Oil in Fitchburg. He traveled to Maui to visit his nephew, and also enjoyed traveling to Italy. He was a very dedicated Boston Sports fan, especially the Patriots and Bruins.

He leaves his wife of 68 years Rose (Cali) Champa of Fitchburg; sons, Michael S. Champa and wife Trisha of Leominster and Steven M. Champa and wife Laura of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Michael L., Stephanie R. Brittney M., Maria A., Hannah R; nieces and nephews.

Mike was predeceased by his brothers Anthony and Joseph Champa, and his sisters, Cherina Kosakoski and Arlene Bussiere.

CHAMPA -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, with a Mass in St. Anthony di Padua Church, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg, on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 A.M. in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the St. Anthony Memorial Fund, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
