ASHBY -- Michelle B. (Hansen) Martens, 36, of Ashby, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Ashby State Road, Fitchburg as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident that morning.

Her son, Justin J. Fournier died in the same accident.

Shelli was born in Leominster, December 3, 1976, a daughter of Walter and Theresa (Drinczyk) Hansen and resided much of her life in Ashby. She was a 1994 graduate of North Middlesex Regional High School in Townsend.

Besides her parents of Ashby, Shelli leaves her daughter, Jasmine R. Martens of Ashby, her sister, Katherine M. Mead of Fitchburg; her maternal grandparents, Richard and Barbara Drinczyk of Fitchburg; and her former husband, James Martens of Woonsocket, RI; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Jane (Simonds) Hansen of Ashby.

Shelli was a member of Ashby Fire Department and was also a trained Emergency Medical Technician. She enjoyed writing and was an accomplished artist. Currently, she was involved in writing two books and had a published poem. Shelli wrote a romance column for examiner.com.

She followed in the tradition of her paternal grandmother, Jane J. (Simonds) Hansen, when she became an Eastern Star Member. She valued and loved to honor her paternal grandparents values in so many ways.

She enjoyed playing softball and was a starting member of her high school team. She continued to play in a local league.

For a couple years, Shelli served as a leader for her daughter's Brownie Troop. She was an avid hiker and enjoyed climbing the area's trails, taking many outdoor photographs along the way. She loved to go kayaking and camping with the family. Shelli had a strong interest in minerals, archeology and earth energies.

MARTENS -- Funeral services for both Shelli and Justin will be held 10 a.m., Monday, February 25th at the Ashby Congregational Church, 21 New Ipswich Rd., Ashby. Burial will be private.
