Philip A. Porter
"better-than-average blessed"
LEOMINSTER -- Philip A. Porter, 79 (born April 24, 1933, Melrose, MA), of Leominster, formerly of Wakefield, went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2012. The oldest of three siblings, Donald Porter, Dianne Jackson, and Jane Hunt, Phil was the son of Edith M. Hunt and stepson of A. Ray Hunt.
Phil will be dearly missed by his lovely bride of 58 years, Arlene F. Porter, their four children, 13 grandchildren, and extended families. Their children are Valerie (Porter) and Paul D'Alessandro, Russell and Rosemarie Porter, Alison (Porter) and Matthew Bromberg, and Jennifer (Porter) and Richard Evans. Grandchildren are Katelyn, Heidi, Benjamin, Jared (with the Lord), Hannah, Rachel, Jesse, Ricky, Shaina, Elijah, Robby, Jill, and Jeff. Phil and Arlene's first great-grandchild, Jonathan Philip, child of Katelyn and Jeff Sellers and grandchild of Valerie and Paul D'Alessandro, is expected in January.
Phil was a devoted husband, wise father, really cool Papa, and kind friend, and he lived his life serving God, family, and community.
Phil served in the Korean War as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was involved with the Wakefield Republican Town Committee, Leominster Republican City Committee, public education, OEM (Office of Emergency Management), and the Wilder Beach Association. Phil also worked as an engineering consultant for many years and remained committed to his responsibilities until the time of his passing.
All who knew Phil knew him to be a man of truth, integrity, and humility. Phil had a deep and abiding faith in the providence of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, and he enjoyed the hope and promise of Romans 8:28 as evidenced in his lifetime.
Papa, we know where you are, but we will still miss you.

Oh Arlene, I am so sorry for the loss of your dear husband Phil. And I am so sorry I am just leaning of this now. You are a dear woman, with a wonderful family I have been blessed to meet. I knew Phil of course so briefly, but remember him as sweet, gentle and patient, and like you so generous of self and time, reaching out even to a stranger in kindness and love. I think of you so often, with love and prayer. God Bless you all, always!
