FITCHBURG -- Phyllis V. "Pena" (Renda) Kenney, 86, of Fitchburg, passed away Friday, April 11, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Phyllis was born in Albany, New York on November 28, 1927, a daughter of the late Philippe and Vita (LaRosa) Renda. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1945 and the Burbank School of Nursing in 1969.

Phyllis worked as an LPN for many years at Burbank Hospital. She later worked at Naukeag Hospital in Ashburnham and also as a private duty nurse in the Montachusett Area.

Phyllis was an active member of Saint Anthony di Padua Parish, and served as a CCD teacher, lector, and Eucharistic Minister. She was an avid card player, and enjoyed sharing this passion with all of her grandchildren. She also loved to read in her spare time.

She leaves her three sons, Ralph T. Kenney and his wife, Joanne of Ashburnham, David H. Kenney and his wife, Heidi of Hubbardston, Thomas V. Kenney and his wife, Karen of New Ipswich, NH; three daughters, Paula J. Crisci of Lunenburg, Mary V. L. Kenney of Fitchburg, and Judith A. Durling of Ashburnham. She leaves many grandchildren: Tiffany and her husband, Jason Ganem, Ryan Kenney and his wife, Jennifer, Marisa Dunn, Kelly Dunn, Michael Crisci Jr., Teresa Crisci, Jessica and her husband, Tim Dacey, Peter Crisci, Samuel Crisci, Anna Crisci, Rose Crisci, Elisha and her husband, Aurel Lico, Austin Kenney, Annie and her husband, Anthony Faiola, Sarah Kenney, Shaun Kenney, Brian Kenney; and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Theresa and her husband, Richard Lemoine of Leominster; her cousin, Jacqueline McGrath of Worcester; along with many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Fitchburg Firefighter Hale G. Kenney on December 25, 1974. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Nick, Anthony, Joseph, Johnny, and Samuel Renda.

KENNEY -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd, Fitchburg on Wednesday, April 16, with a Mass in Saint Anthony di Padua Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 4-7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Saint Anthony Restoration Fund, 84 Salem Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
