ACTON -- Ricky A. Harris, 61, of Acton, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, in Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, after being stricken ill.
He was born on May 8, 1951, in Mobile, Alabama, was the son of the late Isaac and Edna (Sumlin) Harris. He was a graduate of Hudson High School in Selma, Alabama, and also earned an Associates Degree in Business from Middlesex Community College and took several courses from Leslie College.
Mr. Harris is a United States Air Force
Veteran of the Vietnam Era having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant, he earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Small Arms Expert Marksmenship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with one oak leaf cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Past Master Ricky Harris was a member of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons Jurisdiction of Massachusetts. He began his membership in Patriot Lodge #34, where he was raised and attain the degree of master mason. He served as Worshipful Master of Patriot Lodge for several years. Afterward Patriot Lodge #34 merged with Crispus Attucks Lodge #24. His knowledge of the masonic order was so superb, that the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Master appointed him the Deputy Grand Lecturer for the tenth masonic district. V.F.W
. Post 1628 in Bedford, he also loved playing chess, and was an avid New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys and Star Trek fan.
He is survived by his son, Damien Harris of Leominster; Debra Harris of Leominster; and his extended family, Albert and Doris Russell of Bedford, and Edward and Alyce Blair of Leominster; and a host of other family and friends.
HARRIS -- The funeral will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., Leominster, Burial with Military Honors will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 211 Glennallen Road, Winchendon, MA.
