STERLING -- Rocco B. "Rocky" Ciociolo, 94, of Sterling passed away Saturday, April 5, in the Life Care Center of Leominster.
Rocky was born in Worcester on January 7, 1920, a son of the late Antonio and Antoinette (DiVerdi) Ciociolo. He graduated from the Worcester Boys Trade School, where he studied printing. In 1940, Rocky enlisted in the U.S. Navy
, where he proudly served his country during WWII
. He was honorably discharged in 1946. For many years he owned and operated Rocky's Oil Co. in Worcester.
His true passion in life was golfing. He began around age 10, when he would caddy at the Worcester Country Club. As his skills grew, so did his love of the game. This brought him to many courses and country clubs over the years, including; Wachusett, Pleasant Valley, Bear Lakes in West Palm Beach, FL, and Indian Meadow Country Club in Westborough, where he was the Golf Pro for over three years. Rocky competed in numerous pro-amateur tournaments, often returning with a trophy. In his spare time, he loved to travel with his wife Connie and spend time with his family.
He leaves his wife, Constance "Connie" (Vaillancourt) Roux Ciociolo of Sterling; his children, Sherron Ciociolo Carson of Holden, Lana Ciociolo-Hinkell and husband Patrick of Sterling, Dori Ciociolo and husband David Sloane of Sebastopol, CA, Kim Ciociolo Walters of Worcester; step children, Donna Montesion of Leominster, Mark Roux and wife Suzanne of Ashby, Lisa Coggins and husband Scott of Littleton; 10 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. Rocky also leaves his siblings, Rose Sands of Worcester, Michael Ciociolo of Santa Rosa, CA, Virginia Henderson of Shrewsbury, George Ciociolo of Jefferson; his second wife, Anna Leach of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; many nieces and nephews.
Rocky was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia Ciociolo and Lynn Powers; his grandson, Todd Carson; step son, David Roux, and his siblings, Louis Ciociolo, Maria Vacca, Isabella Leno, Matthew Ciociolo, and Anthony Ciociolo. He was also predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Doris Ciociolo.
CIOCIOLO -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Thursday, April 10, with a Mass in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster at 11 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, 486 Clarendon St., Fitchburg. Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, April 9, in the funeral home.
