FITCHBURG -- Ruth E. Daoust, 96, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, in the Highlands.

Ruth was born in Norwood, Rhode Island on November 13, 1917, a daughter of the late John and Maria (Babcock) McAskill. She worked as a realtor for a short time and as a Home Health Aide for many years. Ruth was a very loving and thoughtful woman, who never forgot to send a card for significant events in the lives of her family members and many friends. She often included an endearing note, which warmed the hearts of many. She truly valued her time spent with family, and will be fondly remembered for her detailed storytelling and vast social abilities. Ruth was the matriarch of the family, who loved to cook and try new recipes for her many family gatherings.

Her fondest memories were spent at her beloved farmhouse with her husband and children. She spent nearly 60 years enjoying the peace and natural essence of this land. In her spare time she was an avid reader, and loved to play games with friends and family. Along with her husband, Harold, Ruth traveled both cross country and internationally. She was a woman of great faith, and a longtime member of the Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg.

Ruth leaves her children, John Daoust and his wife, Angela of Leominster, Glen Daoust and his wife, Maureen of Ashburnham, Richard Daoust of Pennsylvania, and Cheryl Colecchi and her husband, Stephen of Alexandria, VA ; grandchildren, Lisa Novelli, Steven and Jason Daoust, Sharon Lashua, Jeremy and Eric Babin, Thomas Daoust, Cathleen Walker, Sheila Boudreau, Margaret Magennis, Jonathan Daoust, Elizabeth Megowen, Timothy Daoust, Ellen Daoust, Justin Daoust, Jennifer Ditzion, Christen Tulli, and Bethany Colecchi; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Anthony, Dominic, Andrew, Matthew, Dylan, Jayden, Skylar, Jayla, Kate, Jared, Aubrielle, Nathan, Jacob, Samuel, Julia, Keaveny, Finnigan, Maeve, Molly, Madeline, and Coleson. She is also survived by her sister, Jean I. McAskill of Fitchburg.

She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, Harold A. Daoust, her brother, Kenneth R. McAskill, and her daughter-in-law, Monica Daoust.

DAOUST -- The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Sunday, March 23 at 2 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Rollstone Congregational Church, 199 Main Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
