FITCHBURG -- Sigmund Holtz, 91, of Fitchburg, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, in the Golden Living Center.

Sigmund was born in Fitchburg on May 31, 1922, a son of the late Julius and Victoria (Hildebrandt) Holtz. He graduated from Fitchburg High School and went on to join the U.S. Army Air Corp. He proudly served his country during WWII. After his honorable discharge he always had a passion for flying airplanes. He received his private pilot license and was a member of the Fitchburg Air Club. Sigmund was a talented automotive mechanic who worked for the City of Fitchburg until his retirement. He enjoyed being outdoors; Sigmund loved to ski and go deep sea fishing on his boat. His true joy in life came from his family whom he loved very much.

He leaves his children; David Holtz and Victoria Holtz, both of Fitchburg; and his granddaughter, Kristin Holtz of Hampton Falls, NH.

He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla (Wellington) Holtz in 1996, and his two sisters, Lydia Holtz Maurer and Olga McSheffrey.

HOLTZ -- Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg is directing arrangements.
