SHIRLEY -- Alexander J. Minalga Sr., 95, of Shirley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Alex was born in Barre, MA on November 2, 1917, son of the late Joseph and Frances Minalga. He was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School. Alex was a veteran of World War II, where he served several tours in Europe and Africa and was a Purple Heart recipient. After returning from the war he married his childhood sweetheart Louise and moved to Shirley. Until his retirement, he worked for the Ayer State Game Farm, where he was a culturist.
Alex enjoyed wood working, carving, reading, and most of all his family. He also loved summering on Cape Cod in Wellfleet with his wife. He was an avid fisherman. He was a true patriarch and will be greatly missed.
He leaves his son, Alexander J. Minalga Jr. and his wife Ann of Shirley; grandchildren, Justin Rivers of Leominster, Renee Rivers of Lowell, and Alexandria Minalga of Shirley.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Louise D. (Gilberti) Minalga in January, 2011 and his sister Helen Minalga.
MINALGA -- Funeral services will be private. Brandon Funeral Home. 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, is directing arrangements.
