LUNENBURG -- Alwin E. Casson, 80, of Lunenburg, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, in the HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital.

He was born in Clinton on Sept. 3, 1932, a son of the late Jack and Erna (Wallet) Casson.

Alwin served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 82nd Airborne and made over 100 jumps.

Following his discharge, he returned home from the service and went to work with the Laborer's Union Local 39 where he served as vice president for several years. Alwin also owned and operated Eager Beaver Construction Company with his sons and son-in-law. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he along with his wife owned Carol's Dairy Bar in Fitchburg.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to his camp in Maine with his family. Alwin was a Boston sports fan and enjoyed the Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox. He was self educated historian who enjoyed reading about history, politics and world news. Alwin also enjoyed gardening around his home on Lake Whalom.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Carol (Ghilardi) Casson of Lunenburg; three sons, Bruce A. Casson and his wife, Virginia of Grafton, Stuart J. Casson of Madison, Maine, and Scott D. Casson and his wife, Margaret of Ashby; a daughter, Brenda Boudreau and her husband, Keith of West Townsend; a brother, John Casson of North Carolina; two sisters, Edith Schild of Missouri, and Joan Casson of England; 14 grandchildren, Beth Stark, Steven Casson, Ryan, Casson, Vincent Bratica, Sonya Matthews, Geno Casson, Shawn Gyles, Eric Casson, Shawna Tamulen, Jessica Bearce, Vanessa Mederios, Amanda Boudreau, Allie Chartrand, and Daniel Casson; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

He is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Casson.of Lancaster MA, and a half-brother, Colin Casson of North Belfast, Ireland.

CASSON -- His funeral will be held on Monday, Nov. 19, at 2 PM in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon. There are no calling hours. The Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd. is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
