Amos Forrest Obituary

formerly of Leominster, WWII Vet; 88

NAPLES, FL -- Amos R. Forrest, 88, of Naples, FL, formerly of Leominster, died peacefully, in his sleep Saturday morning May 14th with his wife Vivian (Cardone) of 64 years by his side.

He was born in Fitchburg on January 26, 1923, a son of the late, Harvey and Loudia (Fontain) Forrest and lived most of his life in Leominster before moving to Naples, FL five years ago.

Amos enlisted in the US Navy February 26, 1941. He served as a Coxwain, Boatswains Mate 2c in WWII during combat on the destroyers, USS Woolsey and USS Wickes in the South Pacific and Iceland. His greatest pride was his service to his country and his family. He was a member of Aurora Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Fitchburg, a Master Mason for 63 years and a lifetime member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Tin Can Sailors.

He also served in the 146th company Civilian Conservation Corps at the Groton State Forest in Marshfield Vermont in 1940.

Amos (Roland) retired from Simons Saw and Steel in 1981.

He leaves his daughter and son-in-law with whom he lived, Janet (Forrest) and Bruce Miner of Naples, FL; a son and daughter-in-law Steven and Dawn (Shotwell) Forrest of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandsons, Jason, Trevor, Nicholas Miner and Kyle Goodman; six great- grandchildren; Kalie, Austin (Effort), Miah, Rhya, Emma and Gage Miner.

He is predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Francis (Moran), Eugene, Eva (Allen), Earle, Harvey, Robert, and Arlene (Carter).

FORREST -- A graveside service with full military honors will be held at The North Cemetery, 75 Holman St., Lunenburg, MA on Friday May 20, 2011, at 1:00 PM. At his request there are no calling hours, however friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service if desired. Flowers may be sent to the Lavery-Chartrand-Alario Funeral Home at 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, MA. 01420, who is directing the arrangements.
