Barbara C. O'Malley
of Leominster, retired Ashburnham teacher

LEOMINSTER -- Barbara C. (St. Arnaud) O'Malley, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester, MA.

She was the daughter of Armand and Flora (Croteau) St. Arnaud of Fitchburg, MA.

She is survived by her son, Michael O'Malley of Reading, MA, and his daughter, Allsun. She also leaves her daughter, Kathy Russo and her husband, Chip of East Dennis, MA, and their children, Nicole and Joseph.

She was predeceased by her daughter. Patricia Chapdelaine, and leaves her three sons, Nicholas, Collin, and Connor Chapdelaine of Benton, Arkansas.

In addition, she leaves, her brother, Sonny St. Arnaud and his wife, Judy, of Lunenburg, MA; as well as their four daughters and their husbands and children, Deborah LaPointe, Cynthia Liggett, Brenda St. Arnaud and Wendy Castriotta. She was predeceased by her sister, Claire Abernathy and leaves her children and their spouses and children: Evelyn Abernathy-Silin, Bill Abernathy, and Janine Markham.

Barbara was a graduate of St. Bernard's High School, and received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Fitchburg State College. She was deeply passionate about education and taught at the John R. Briggs Elementary School in Ashburnham, MA for 31 years.

An avid Patriots fan, she could be found cheering for the team whenever possible. Barbara also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with friends and family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She served as an adult literacy volunteer for many years. Barbara was a resident of the Leominster Crossings assisted-living community, where she had many friends.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 in Our Lady of The Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster, MA, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg, MA. Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 p.m. at the Lavery Chartrand & Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, MA.
