LEOMINSTER -- Donald R. Bernard, 78, formerly of Carriage Court, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at the Keystone Center, Leominster.
Mr. Bernard was born in Fitchburg on May 17, 1934 a son of the late Hector and Mathilda (Richard) Bernard, and for many years had lived in Westminster prior to moving to Leominster.
Mr. Bernard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine R. (McCollum) Bernard; two sons, Alan D. Bernard and Steven D. Bernard, both of Gardner; three daughters, Joyce M. Bolduc of Fitchburg, Cheryl Ann Aldrich of New Ipswich, NH, Nancy E. O'Leary of Gardner; two brothers, Marcel Bernard and Romeo Bernard, both of Fitchburg; a sister, Mary Jane Rosenthal of Fitchburg.
He also leaves 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Roland Bernard, Normand Bernard, Rachel Melanson, and Elda Rousseau.
Mr. Bernard retired in 1986 after working for 31 years at the James River Paper Mill #8, as a paper maker. Following his retirement, he worked at Caldor Department Store and Market Basket Supermarket.
He served with the Massachusetts National Guard.
Mr. Bernard attended St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School in Fitchburg, and later attended Mt. Wachusett Community College.
Mr. Bernard attended the Bread Of Life Church in Westminster.
BERNARD -- A funeral service will be held 10 A.M., Wednesday, February 20th at Bread Of Life Church, 22 State Road East, (Rte. 2A), Westminster. Burial will be in the Woodside Cemetery, Westminster at a later date. Calling hours will 6-8 p.m, Tuesday at the Louis M. Isabelle Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg.
