Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother
ASHBY -- Garry M. Cordio, 60, of Ashby, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Garry was born in Fitchburg on Sept. 7, 1953 a son of the late Anthony and Lorraine (Gadoury) Cordio. He was a 1972 graduate of Fitchburg High School.
He worked for the General Electric Co., in Fitchburg for over 20 years prior to their closing. More recently, he was a turbine assembler for D.R.S. in Fitchburg until he became ill. Garry also worked in the maintenance department at Ashby Academy.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed classic cars, as well as producing maple syrup in the spring. His true love was his family whom he cherished spending time with.
Garry leaves his wife of 35 years, Vivian (Wilson) Cordio of Ashby; a son, Bruce Cordio and his wife, Tiffany of Fitchburg; a daughter, Marie Cordio of Boxborough; three sisters, Gail Richard of Philipston, Laura Lee Doherty of Rindge, NH, and Kimberly Michaud of Leominster; three grandchildren, Dylan Dandy, Domenick Cordio, and Davin Cordio; and several nephews and nieces.
CORDIO -- His funeral will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10 A.M. in the Horizon Christian Fellowship Church, 356 Broad St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Ashby. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts General Hospital Lymphoma Research Fund, c/o Dr. Ephraim Hochberg, Development Office, 100 Cambridge St., Suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114.
