GARDNER -- Gary L. Caouette was born November 6th, 1953, and passed away on April 16th 2014, after an extended illness. Gary was a graduate of Oakmont Regional High School, class of 1971 and of Assumption College class of 1975. A lifelong Spartan, Gary was a career Math teacher and athletic coach at Oakmont having started in 1975 and retiring from teaching in 2011. Gary spent 47 years of his life either attending, teaching, or coaching at Oakmont. After coaching the Spartans for over four decades in numerous sports, he was inducted into the Oakmont Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. Gary's Oakmont coaching career consisted of being the Head Varsity Baseball Coach from 1981-1986, and again from 1995-2000. He also worked as an Assistant Basketball Coach 1973-1986 and in 1996 under Bill Wyman. Gary was an Assistant Softball Coach 1991-1994 under Doug White with teams that won 3 district titles and the 1991 state title. Gary was a Varsity Football Assistant in 1977, from 1989-1998, and again 2005-2012 serving under Doug White and Dave LaRoche twice while winning 3 Super Bowls in 1977, 2006, and 2009. He was named the Massachusetts State Football Assistant Coach of the Year 2009.

Outside of Oakmont, Gary worked as an Assistant Baseball Coach under Joe Ruth for the Lunenburg Phillies Baseball Club for several years. Gary also served as an Assistant Basketball Coach under his son Tim at Gardner High School in 2006-2007.

Gary leaves behind his wife of seven years and best friend, Kathryn L. Caouette; his son, Timothy R Caouette; his daughter-in-law, Jessica L. Caouette; his granddaughter, Caia L. Caouette; his stepson, Alexander J Dymek IV and his stepdaughter, Katelyn M. Dymek and fiancé, Kurt R. Landry; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Everett Mahan; and sister-in-law, Susan Mahan.

Gary was predeceased by his father, Arthur "Lyn" L. Caouette and his mother, Helen L. (McNelis) Caouette in 2007. Gary was also predeceased by his brother, Terry L. Caouette who passed away in 1993.

Gary will be remembered as a loyal and trustworthy friend, a helpful and friendly co-worker, a motivating and inspiring educator, a wonderful and doting father and grandfather, as a Spartan, and as a loving husband.

CAOUETTE -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, April 22 at 10 A.M., with a Mass in Saint Bernard's Parish at Saint Camillus Church, 333 Mechanic St. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Westminster. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 21, from 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to AWRSD, for the Gary Caouette Scholarship Fund, 9 Oakmont Drive, Ashburnham, MA 01430.
