Loving son, brother, and step-brother; 53
LEOMINSTER -- Jamie Claude Allain, 53, of West Yarmouth, MA, passed away peacefully on July 17th, 2013, after a prolonged illness that he fought with courage and grace. In his final hours, he was comforted by his beloved mother, Betty Paquet, caring sisters, Katy and Laurie, and brother, Luke.
Jamie grew up in Leominster where he attended Julie Country Day School. Later, he graduated from Notre Dame Prep School in Fitchburg and also attended Fitchburg State College. In high school, Jamie was a prolific scorer on a basketball team that won two state championships; he also played in college and loved golf and the 19th hole.
Jamie launched a successful 15 year career with College Painters, and enjoyed being a basketball and soccer referee. Coaching, officiating and mentoring the young gave him great joy.
Over the past decade, Jamie's health forced him to curtail athletics and he moved to South Yarmouth where he could be closer to his mom and father, Paul. Despite his health, he served as a volunteer ombudsman and coached basketball at St. Pius X Middle School of South Yarmouth. This past spring, their Director of Athletics, Nick Corsi, wrote: "You (Jamie) know the game so well and take the time to teach both basketball and life lessons. Thank you so much for your professionalism and true effort
" Jamie treasured this commendation.
Jamie will be deeply missed for his wit, acceptance of people, and uncomplaining nature. He had a yen for cigars, horses, the New York Post, and sports. He was a unique and caring man.
Jamie was predeceased in 1969 by his much-loved dad, Raymond, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth and father, Paul Paquet; and brothers, Jay, N. Kingstown, RI, and Luke, Winthrop; sisters, Laurie Banks, Park City, Utah, and Katy Furey, Marblehead.
Also surviving him are step-brothers, Scott Paquet, Lunenburg, Stewart Paquet, Ashby, and Steven Paquet, Ashby; and step-sisters, Susan Regan, Fitchburg, and Sharon Vom Eigen, Leominster.
