John 'Jack' Thomas LaCoss
Jack passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 13th.
He was born in Fitchburg on December 15, 1937, the son of Francis E. LaCoss and Matilda (Aube) LaCoss.
He was the husband of Jeannine (Mercier) LaCoss for over 51 years.
He lived in Fitchburg before moving to Westminster in 1965, where he resided until his death. He was a 1955 graduate of Fitchburg High School. In addition, he completed coursework in finance at local colleges.
Jack was employed by the First Safety Fund National Bank in Fitchburg for 32 years, starting part-time in high school as a mail clerk and ending his banking career as Vice-President of Investments. He later worked for C.R.I.M. Construction Co. Inc., retiring in 1999.
Jack was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Westminster where he had been on both the renovation and finance committees and the religious education board. He was on the Advisory Board for the Town of Westminster. He was a member of the Westminster Lion's Club. He also served on various committees for the United Way and ARC in Fitchburg.
Most of all he enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, gardening and spending time with his wife, children and dear grandchildren.
He served as a SSGT in the Army Reserves from 1958-1964.
He leaves his wife Jeannine, a daughter, Lynn Marie (LaCoss) Bradley, Ph.D., and her husband Kevin T. Bradley, Ph. D., of Newtown PA; a son, Navy Commander Thomas J. LaCoss and his wife Rusty of Mechanicsburg PA; and a daughter, Maribeth A. (LaCoss) Bradley and her husband Timothy Bradley of Elizabethtown PA. He also leaves eight grandchildren - Marissa & Shane Bradley, Elizabeth, Madeleine & Jack LaCoss, and Kaelyn, Jillian & Aidan Bradley; two sisters - Mary Hurley and Amy Babineau of Fitchburg; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by two sisters (Rita Herala and Vivian Grace), and three brothers (Alton, Mark, and Eugene LaCoss).
His smile, kindness, and love will be missed by all those he touched.
LaCOSS -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, May 18th at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church Street, Westminster, MA. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster. Calling hours will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 17th at the Lavery, Chartrand, and Alario Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., Fitchburg, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Attn: Alison Harding, 450 Brookline Ave. - D1220, Boston, MA 02215.
