FITCHBURG -- Kaarine "Kay" Eleanor (Nelson) Driscoll, 88, of Fitchburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, at her home, after a three year battle with ovarian cancer.

She was born on January 23, 1925, in Fitchburg, the youngest daughter of Simon W., and Lylli (Taavela) Nelson Sr.

Kay was an extraordinary saleslady of woman's clothing and furs, beginning in the 1960's for Denholm's and McKay's in Worcester, continuing at Ruth Lee's in Leominster, and Baylin's and Rome's in Fitchburg, MA
She loved dancing, cats, knitting, especially baby outfits for family and friends, and the warm loving relationships she had with so many family members and close friends. She also enjoyed cooking, and was famous for her "spaghetti feeds". Kay was very proud of her Finnish heritage, personifying fierce independence and SISU.

Kay was predeceased by a son, James, her former husband, Thomas, and all her siblings, Elizabeth (Prescott) Preston, Mary Lundigan, Claire Dillingham, George and William Nelson, and Robert Keronen.

She is survived by a son, Thomas, and his wife, Cynthia, of Winchendon, Cynthia's son, Samuel Janpol, of Bronx, NY, and lifelong friends, Irene Mailhot and Ruth LeBlanc, both of Leominster, and other dear friends scattered about the country. Kay was also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, including, Rosemary Lundigan, of New Ipswich, NH, Nancy Leach, of Springfield, NH, and Lisa Batchelder of Wenham, MA. She also leaves two loving godchildren, niece, Elizabeth Lundigan of Leominster, and grand niece, Holly Batchhelder, of Boston.

DRISCOLL -- There will be no Funeral Services. Kay will be cremated and join her parents at their resting place. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be considered to Heywood Hospital, Attn: Oncology Dept., 243 Green St., Gardner, MA 01440 or the Gardner Visiting Nurses Association Inc., 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.

The Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, is assisting the family with Funeral arrangements.
