Loving mother, grandmother, and aunt; 83

FITCHBURG -- Leona D. (Murphy) Civita, 83 years old of Fitchburg, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Health Alliance Hospital after declining health.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Civita-Roy and her husband, Bradley of Fitchburg, and Darlene Civita of Leominster, who had been an integral part of coordinating her complex health needs, and spending the last hours with her before she passed. Grandchildren, Christine Mercauto and her husband, Jeremy of Fitchburg, and Jennifer Perla and her husband, Salvatore of Leominster; great-granddaughter, Madeline Perla; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Ralph G. Civita in 2000. Also predeceased by her was her loving three year old grandson, Jason Turchin in 1988, as well as her brother, James S. Murphy of Monson, and Irene Durkin of New Hampshire.

Leona was born February 23, 1930 in Boston, daughter of Samuel and Christine (McIntyre) Murphy and moved to Fitchburg in 1955. She had worked as a seamstress for Totsy Doll Clothes Co. and later for Pandora. Leona enjoyed her weekly visits with her grandchildren with whom she made homemade meals and taught them how to play the card game fascination.

Family would like to extend many thanks to the nursing staff at Health Alliance for the exceptional care she received over these past years. Additional thanks to Dr. David Ammerman and Dr. Ximena Castro, for the great medical care given to Leona.

CIVITA -- A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11 am in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West Street, Leominster. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Leominster. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 2-4 pm in the funeral home.
