FITCHBURG -- Mary A. (Civitano) Bica, 101, a longtime Fitchburg resident, died Saturday, Oct. 20, in Life Care Center of Leominster, surrounded by her loving family.
Her husband of 55 years, Joseph Bica, died in 1990. She left this earth to join her husband, Joe, on what would have been their 77th wedding anniversary, just two months shy of her 101st birthday. She was also predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Bica of Nashua, NH, who died in 2007.
She leaves a daughter, Phyllis A. Dupuis of Fitchburg; one sister, Dorothy Schwartz of Margate, FL: five grand daughters, Cynthia R. Stone, and her husband, Kenneth, of Leominster, Mary-Jo Fluet, and her husband Kevin, of Fitchburg, Normajean A. Dupuis, of Milford, NH, Lori-Ann Urraro, and her husband, Tony, of Leominster and Lisa Marie Bica of Leominster; 9 great- grandchildren, Kenneth Stone, Kristopher Stone, Rebecca Fluet, Julie Fluet, Ashley Bica, Amber Nash-Urraro, Zevyn Urraro, Kyli Urraro and Shawna Bica; and 4 great-great-grandchildren, Nicolas Stone, Abigale Stone, Madelynn Stone and Brayden Duarte. She was predeceased by 1 brother and 3 sisters.
Mrs. Bica was a Stitcher for many years at the former Union Doll Co. and former Comfort Slipper, both in Fitchburg.
She was a charter member of the former Madonna of the Holy Rosary Parish of Fitchburg, where she celebrated in attendance at the first Mass, and lucky enough to celebrate in attendance at the last Mass. She was a member of its Madonna of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She is currently a member of St. Anthony di Padua Parish in Fitchburg. She was a founding member, and 25 year member of the Montachusett Twirlers, and was known as an excellent seamstress, making her own outfits.
She was born in Queens, NY, on December 25, 1911, a daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina (Derasmo) Civitano.
BICA -- Her Funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday, Oct. 24, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at Noon in St. Anthony di Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Fitchburg.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg.
Calling hours at the Funeral Home are on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to the St. Anthony di Padua Parish Renovation Fund, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or can be left at the Funeral Home.
