Richard A. "Dick" Fors Obituary
Richard A. 'Dick' Fors
of Fitchburg, formerly of Ashby; 78

FITCHBURG -- Richard A. "Dick" Fors, 78, of Fitchburg, formerly of Ashby, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 in the Highlands.

Dick was born in Groton, MA on August 22, 1934, the eldest of nine children of Leo B. and Mildred E. (Bennett) Fors. He grew up on the family farm in Ashby, and graduated from Ashby High School with the class of 1952. Always interested in town affairs, he had served on the Planning Board, as well as the Bicentennial Committee. Dick also coached his son's little league baseball team.

He worked for many years for United Cooperative Farmers in Fitchburg, first as a truck driver and then as a Bulk Fleet Manager. Prior to that, he had worked in the paper mills of Fitchburg and had started his own trucking business. While semi-retired, most recently he enjoyed working for his son at S. Fors Construction.

To his family and friends he was known as Mr. Fix-It, being able to take apart and fix most anything. He loved working in his basement workshop refinishing furniture and antique school desks, building train tables and hockey stands for his grandchildren, repairing toys and whatnot.

Dick was a member of the Ashby High School Alumni Association, Fitchburg Lodge of Elks, Fitchburg Historical Society, The Finnish Center at Saima Park, Mid-State Antique Auto Club and was a friend of Coggshall Park and the Fitchburg Senior Center.

He was married to his wife, Nancy (Aho) Fors for 44 years and together they enjoyed spending time on the coast of Maine, cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean and bus trips. They took great pleasure in cruising about in their 1966 Mustang convertible. Most of all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and attending his grandchildren's sporting and other events. Although a man of few words, Dick was known for his keen wit and usually managed to get the last word in.

Besides his wife, he leaves his sons, Scott Fors and wife, Joyce, and Kim Fors and wife, Nancy all of Ashby, David Fors and wife, Audrey of Lunenburg; daughter, Lisa Valera and husband, Peter of Fitchburg; 10 grandchildren, Derick, Melissa, Bryan, Micaela, Tyler, Nicole, David John (DJ), Daniel, Domenic, and Drew; and four great-grandchildren, Addison, Makenna, Connor, and Jackson. He also leaves his sister, Barbara Ouellette and husband, Emile "Jack" of Fitchburg, and brothers, Rodney Fors and wife, Donna, and Philip Fors and wife, Diane, all of Ashby, and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth, Ronald, David, Paul, and Brian.

FORS -- The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Calling hours will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday, March 17, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donation be made in Dick's memory to Affinity Hospice of Life, 800 Main St., Holden, MA 01520.
