of Fitchburg; 77

FITCHBURG -- Richard S. Brunell, 77, of Fitchburg, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Health Alliance - Leominster Hospital.

Mr. Brunell was born in Ware, January 31, 1936, a son of Alfred I. and Beth G. (Haskell) Brunell and resided most of his life in the Fitchburg and Westminster areas. He attended the Fitchburg Schools.

During the Korean Conflict he served his country in the United States Army.

He leaves his wife of 13 years, Elizabeth J. (Enwright) Brunell; a stepson, William S. Gilman of Dracut, two stepdaughters, Winifred Rivard of Winchendon, Ellen Bizotto of Westminster; four brothers, Robert Brunell of Westminster, Alfred I. Jr., Steven E. Brunell both of Fitchburg, John Brunell of Orlando, FL; a sister, Sarah Nicholson of Lowell; his former wife, Janice Brunell of Fitchburg, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members.

For over thirty years, Mr. Brunell worked in the pallet department of Premier Box Company in Fitchburg. Prior to that he worked as a long distance driver and also as a deliveryman and machine repairman for the former Cott Beverage Company.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg. He served many years as an Altar Server and as a Eucharistic Minster both at regularly scheduled Masses and by bringing the Eucharist to patients at Burbank and Leominster Hospitals. He was a former member of the Serra Club of North Worcester County.

Mr. Brunell was a longtime member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and this month was scheduled to receive the 2013 "Top Hat" Award. This presentation is given to an outstanding Vincentian in recognition of his dedication to the mission of the St. Vincent de Paul organization.

Mr. Brunell was a Fourth Degree member to the Fitchburg Council # 99 Knights of Columbus in Fitchburg.

He enjoyed working with stained glass, gardening and was an accomplished woodworker. He was known for his generosity and for his never ending willingness to assist others.

BRUNELL -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 Am Thursday, April 25th at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Brunell's family will receive family and friends from 4pm -7pm Wednesday, April 24th at St. Joseph's Church.
