of Fitchburg; 95

FITCHBURG - Tony D.Y. Lem, 95 passed away on Sunday, June 10 at Health Alliance Leominster Hospital.

Mr. Lem was born on May 2, 1923 in Canton, China a son of Hua-Tang and Hu and resided in Fitchburg since 1990.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Wai (Wong) Lem of Fitchburg, one son, Kenneth Lem and his wife Vicki of Harvard, two daughters, Bonnie Kwan and her husband Richard of Fitchburg, Abby Chow of Acton, seven grandchildren, Kayla Lem, Alex Lem, Garrick Kwan, Derrick Kwan, Monica Kwan, Olivia Chow and Audrey Chow.

Mr. Lem immigrated to America in 1940 and graduated from East High of Wichita, Kansas in 1948. In the 1950's, he worked at the prestigious Papagayo Room Lounge at the Fairmont Hotel and Hollywood Candy Kitchen in San Francisco. He also co-owned the Mason Street Cafe with his father and worked at the San Francisco Water Department as head chef. In the 1960's, he returned to Kansas to operate and own Kitty's Kitchen in famed Dodge City for twenty-five years.

He enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing, tai-chi, singing in a barbershop quartet, and was an established wood worker. He was an active member of the Leominster Senior Center where he taught and played mah-jong with his fellow seniors. Mr. Lem was a member of Christ Church in Fitchburg.

LEM - A funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 19 in the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave., Boston.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm Monday, June 18 at the funeral home.
