TOWNSEND -- Wilfred C. Stanton 97, passed away Tuesday January 1,2013 in Health Alliance Leominster Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Fitchburg, MA. on June 30,1915 the son of Joseph and Emily (Barrows) Stanton. He lived in Townsend, MA. for over 40 years before coming to live in Fitchburg, MA. for 20 years. He worked as a papermaker for Crocker Burbank, Weyerhauser and Crocker Tech for 33 years. He retired in 1974. He kept very active in his retirement. He enjoyed farming, bowling, playing cards, camping, dancing and was an avid puzzle maker. He was a member of the North American Family Campers Association Sqaw-No-Cook Chapter. His greatest enjoyment was being a good father to his three daughters and his son. Providing for them was most important to him.
He attended St. John the Evangelist Church in Townsend MA. for many years.
He is survived by his son, Eugene Stanton of Gardner ,MA., his three daughters Cathleen Johnson and her husband Gerald of Townsend, MA., Paula Mathieu and her husband David of Townsend, MA., and Elise Schofield and her husband Harry of Lunenburg, MA., 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, two sisters Dorothy Fors of Lunenburg, MA., and Patricia Thompson of Winchendon,MA., along with several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Lauretta (Beaulieu) Stanton in 1971, and his brother Earl Stanton.
STANTON -- The funeral will be held on Monday January 7, 2013 with a Mass at 10a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 1 School St. in Townsend, MA., Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are on Sunday afternoon January 6, 2013 at the funeral home from 2 until 4p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the
