Anna (Sarkisian) Mikaelian; 89
Fitchburg school teacher

FITCHBURG -- Anna (Sarkisian) Mikaelian, 89, died Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Highlands, in Fitchburg, after an illness.

She was the wife of 62 years of the late George Mikaelian, who died on December 27, 2010.

She leaves three children, Charles Mikaelian, and his wife, Katie of Lunenburg, Louise Mikaelian and her husband, Bob, of Fitchburg, and Elizabeth Berthiaume, and her husband, Ron of Lunenburg; five grandchildren, Mikael Berthiaume, Kevin Berthiaume, Robyn Berthiaume, Matthew Mikaelian, and Adam Mikaelian; one sister, Yerevan Peterson of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by a brother, Harry Sarkisian, and a sister, Doris Sarkisian.

Anna was born in Brighton on November 24, 1924 a daughter of the late Sarkis H, and Azniv (Borzakian) Sarkisian. She was raised in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1942. In addition, Anna attended Armenian School. During the war, she worked for the government as a secretary at the recruiting and special orders division of the Boston Army Base. She was a Brownie and Cadet Leader for a few years in Fitchburg. In 1960, she entered Fitchburg State College and graduated in 1966 with a Masters of Education.

She taught in the Fitchburg School System as a 3rd grade teacher for 20 years. Anna was a member of Christ Church in Fitchburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher and also a Superintendent. She served on the Vestry for two terms and was in charge of a preschool day camp at Christ Church Camp in Rindge, NH for three years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

MIKAELIAN -- Her funeral will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church, 569 Main Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery, 115 Mt. Elam Road, Fitchburg, MA. Calling Hours will be on Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 763 Mass. Avenue, Lunenburg, MA 01462. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anna's name to the , 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472. See for further information.
