FREDERICK, Maryland -- Theresa D. "Terry" (Carignan) Scarpignato, 87, of Frederick, Maryland, and a former resident of Leominster, MA, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 in Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick, Maryland.
Terry was born on September 29, 1926 in Bellows Falls, Vermont. She was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Vailliere) Carignan. She attended and graduated from Bellows Falls High School in Vermont. She then attended and graduated from the former Burbank Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1947. Terry worked at the Burbank Hospital as a registered nurse and in nursing administration for many years. She then went to work at the Malden Hospital, as a registered nurse. Terry decided that she wanted to go back to school to acquire her degree, she attended and graduated from Atlantic Union College in Lancaster, MA, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree, and in 1986 she graduated from Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA with her Master of Science in Nursing Degree. Terry retired in 1991 after 44 years in the field of nursing.
Terry was an active member of Holy Family of Nazareth Church in Leominster, MA since 1969. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and had taken care of all the scheduling for the church for several years. She was also a member of the building committee for the construction of the new Holy Family of Nazareth Church.
She is survived by her two children, her son, Richard "Rick" Scarpignato of Townsend, MA.; her daughter, Donna West and her husband, Jeff of Frederick, MD; her grandchildren, Whitney, Taryn, Erika, and William; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces, and her special cousin and "little sister", Pat Hall and her husband, Wayne and their children Tracey, Heather, Nicole, and Sam, all of Walpole, N.H.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Vincent Scarpignato who passed away in 1993.
SCARPIGNATO -- Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Holy Family of Nazareth Church, 750 Union St., Leominster, MA. Inurnment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, in Fitchburg, MA. A calling hour will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry's memory may be made to Homewood Auxiliary, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702.
