Retired Fitchburg Police Officer, Army Vet; 76

FITCHBURG -- George F. Miller, 76, of Fitchburg, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Health Alliance, Leominster Hospital.

Mr. Miller was born in Springfield, Ohio, November 5, 1937, the son of George F. Miller and Blanche M. (Hollis) Miller Luck. He was a 1955 graduate of Springfield, Ohio High School and later continued his education at Mt. Wachusett Community College in Gardner and Clark University in Worcester before receiving his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1982.

For over 34 years, Mr. Miller worked as a police officer in the City of Fitchburg, retiring in 1998 at the rank of sergeant.

He was a longtime member of the Eastwood Club in Fitchburg, the Massachusetts Police Association and the National Rifle Association. During the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Lea B. (Lemire) Miller; a son, Bryan E. Miller of Braintree; two daughters, Kathy A. Serratore and her husband, Frank, of Fitchburg; Barbara L. Miller of Leominster, two sisters, Barbara M. Gentile and Gaylene Farrell, both of Springfield, Ohio; two grandchildren, Stefanie Serratore, Matthew George Serratore; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-father, Edward W. Luck.

MILLER -- Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 28th at the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Florence St., Leominster. Calling hours are 2:00 - 5:00 PM Sunday, April 27th at the Funeral Home.
