FITCHBURG -- Lorraine Mary "Hoppy" (Richard) Walsh, 88, died at her home, on May 15, 2014, with her family at her side.
She was the wife, of the late Joseph Paul Walsh, who died February 9, 2004.
She leaves her three sons, Robert P. Walsh, William J. Walsh, and his wife, Helen, all of Fitchburg, and Paul LaFonde, of Phillipston, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was born in Fitchburg, on August 12, 1925, a daughter of the late Edgar and Agnes (Dufourt) Richard.
She worked for many years in the plastic's industry, as a molder, for Century Plastics, and Foster Grant.
Lorraine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, in Fitchburg, and served as a past commander and chaplain. She was also involved with the DAV in Bedford, making over 50 Christmas baskets every year. Working with, and caring for Veterans was a very important part of her life. She was a member of the Golden Ages Club, the Senior Center, and enjoyed crocheting, bingo, and was involved with many other activities.
WALSH -- Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, 486 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420. A calling hour will be held in the Funeral Home, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. prior to the Funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine's name to the Kindred at Home, Peoples First Hospice, 130 Rumford Road, Suite 211, Auburndale, MA 02466.
