Albert J. Gingras
of Fitchburg; 70

FITCHBURG -- Albert J. Gingras, 70, of Fitchburg, passed away after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Al was born in Fitchburg on May 21, 1943, to the late Joseph and Cecile (Belliveau) Gingras. Al attended St. John's Grammar School and was an altar boy at Sacred Heart Church. He graduated from Fitchburg Trade School in 1962 and had a great ability in wood working, electrical, and anything mechanical. He was always ready to help when a construction project was at hand.

Al worked at the former General Electric plant on Boulder Drive in Fitchburg for 34 years until the plant closed. He worked in the Test Department at General Electric and kept everyone on their toes, as he was the first in line to keep everyone smiling; he was also a very dedicated worker. Al retired when the plant closed, and kept busy with his friends and family. He found enjoyment in taking care of his yard. He had a great love for the game of golf and was one of the greatest comedians on and off the course. Al also was a captain of the ten pin bowling league and carried a very respectable average. Al served on the executive board of the GEECO, now GFA Credit Union for over 25 years and had very fond memories of all the activities with this group. He also looked forward to his annual trip to lake Morey, Vermont for the week long golf outing with his brother and friends. He always provided the comic relief on and off the golf course.

Al is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Lapointe and her husband Gilles of Fitchburg, Lisa Klatt and her husband Thomas of Oxford, MA; brothers, Henry Gingras and his wife Blanche of Bridgewater, MA, Robert Gingras and his wife Sharon of Lunenburg; grandchildren, Emilyne and Ethan Lapointe of Fitchburg and Madeline Gingras of Oxford, MA. He also leaves his very dear friend, Grace LeBlanc of Fitchburg, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Phyllis (Boucher) Gingras on December 8, 2004.

GINGRAS -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Wednesday, May 21, with a Mass in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 4-8 PM in the funeral home.
