Formerly of Leominster, MA; 95

SALISBURY, NC -- Evelyn M. (Girouard) Ashe, 95, of Salisbury, NC, died June 30, 2014, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, after a brief illness.

She was born on April 12, 1919, in Leominster, MA, to the late A. Robert and Laura E. (McCaffrey) Girouard. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin M. Ashe, her son-in-law, Patrick M. Vallandingham, her grandson, Allen M. Vallandingham, and her sister, Irene Faubert.

She graduated from Leominster High School and met her future husband at DuPont in Leominster. From there the couple moved to Joliet, IL, Charleston, WV, and, in retirement, to Naples, FL. As a young homemaker, she was busy with dressmaking for herself and her daughters, gardening, and, a bit later, chauffeuring her young daughters around. She was active at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Girl Scouts and was an award winning amateur photographer. Later, she worked at The Diamond Department Store in Charleston, WV, and then became an LPN, enjoying a rewarding and interesting career at Charleston General Hospital. With the move to Naples, she loved to walk the beaches with Martin and paint those beautiful scenes in oil. In widowhood, she moved to Salisbury, NC, and added a busy email correspondence to her frequent letter writing.

She leaves two daughters, Ann Vallandingham of Salisbury, NC, and Evelyn (Rene)Benoit of Rockland, ON; one sister, Doris Sideleau of Leominster, MA; grandchildren, Scott (Andrea) Vallandingham of Matthews, NC, Laura (Ray) Storey of Salisbury, NC, Robert (Michele) Zerbe of Vail, AZ, Matthew, Anne Marie, and Mark (Jess) Benoit, all of Ottawa, ON; great-grandchildren, Jesse and Patrick Reaves, Kara Vallandingham, Nicole Vallandingham, Riley and Mason Zerbe and Mia Benoit; great-granddaughter, Braelyn.

She leaves nieces & nephews in the Sideleau, Faubert and Ashe families in the Leominster area.
