Past Commander of Townsend VFW, Vet; 94

TOWNSEND -- Albert F. Upham, 94, of Townsend, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at The Highlands, Fitchburg.

His wife of 58 years, E. Mildred (Jodrey) Upham, died in December 2010.

Mr. Upham was born in Townsend, April 27, 1920, a son of George and Flora (Rice) Upham, and was a lifelong Townsend resident.

During WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. He was a member and past commander of the Townsend VFW Post #6538. He was a member of the Townsend United Methodist Church and the Groton Grange, #7. He was a former member of the Townsend American Legion Post #199 and the Townsend Grange.

For 17 years, he worked in the maintenance department of the Nashoba Community Hospital, retiring in 1985. Prior to that, he worked for the Townsend Department of Public Works.

He leaves his son, Paul H. Upham, and his significant other, Patricia A. Dooley of Townsend; and his daughter, Gloria F. of Townsend.

He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Upham of Townsend.

UPHAM -- Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main Street, (Rte. 119), Townsend Center. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery Townsend. Calling hours are 5-7 p.m. Monday.Please see for additional information.
