Thomas W. Connell, Sr.
Retired Templeton Police Sergeant

WESTMINSTER -- Thomas W. Connell, Sr., a resident of Westminster Massachusetts for more than 40 years, was called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday July 31st, 2014.

Tom was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 21, 1939, the only child of Maurice Lindley Connell and Mildred Ann Wysong. He graduated from Coral Gables High School, in Florida in 1955, later in life earning an Associates of Criminal Justice, from Mount Wachusett Community College, and a Bachelors of Science, from Springfield University. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity. Tom was a Police Officer first serving in Westminster, and Ashburnham starting in1973. He graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy, in 1978 and retired from Templeton Police Department in 1991.

Tom was active with the Boy Scouts, as a youth starting in 1949 and serving as multiple roles as an adult including Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and Committee Chair for units in Westminster, from 1973 through 2013. Tom was a living historian, provost, and member of the 15th MA VOL INF, a civil war reenacting society. Tom was an avid collector, of police insignia from around the world and an avid model train enthusiast. He also served with Project Harmony, acting as an instructor in former soviet republics, where he taught community policing. Tom was a member of the International Police Association, and an associate member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

The only thing more important to Tom than his wife, children, and grandchildren was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He had been a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Westminster since 1980, where he was active as a Liturgist, and volunteered with the Sunday school, VBS, Living Nativity, Building Committee and Church Council.

Tom leaves his wife of 26 years, Marjolaine (Racicot) Connell; six children, Thomas Connell, II, and Kristine LeClair, of Westminster, MA, Heather Connell, of Pasadena, CA, Cheryl Lauricella, of North Hampton, MA, Julian Homan, of Lakeland, FL, and Celeste Brooks, of Lowell, MA. He also leaves 14 grandchildren including Victoria, Elizabeth, Kristopher, Zachary, Matthew, and Margaret of Westminster, MA; Shelby and Daniel Homan of Lakeland CA.

CONNELL -- Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 6:30 p.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1 Hager Park Road, Westminster, MA.

Burial will be on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the Woodside Cemetery, 9 Narrows Road, Westminster, MA.

Calling Hours will be in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Our Savior Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 459, Westminster, MA 01473.
