Robert H. LaVenture
of Leominster, Air Force Vet; 81
LEOMINSTER -- Robert H. LaVenture, 81, after suffering from heart complications for several years, died suddenly Friday, August 29, 2014, at his home in Leominster, MA.
He was born May 7, 1933 in Fitchburg, MA, the son of Edward H. and Lillian (Dupuis) LaVenture.
At a very young age, Bob began roller skating at Whalom Roller Skating Rink which was owned and operated by his parents. In his early teens, he skated in the Boston Garden and was the Northeastern Champion in the Roller Skating Dance competition. He later competed in the National Championship and placed 2nd.
After graduating in 1951 from Saxton Trade High School in Leominster, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Washington, DC.
He worked in sales most of his life mainly for East Side Oil Company and retired in 1992.
He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish since its inception in 1954, where he was a very active member of the Parish. Bob looked forward to being the "Voice" of the bazaar every year.
For more than 40 years, he was a member of the Leominster Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1993, and served as Club President from 1997 - 1998.
He was passionate about his fishing and enjoyed boating which led him to join the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He studied to become a coxswain and instructed others in boat safety.
Bob was also a member of the Lunenburg Auxiliary Police and a Reserve Deputy in the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Worcester, MA.
Bob was devoted to his wife and family.
He leaves his wife, May (Brideau) LaVenture with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage in June; two sons, James D. LaVenture and his wife, Sherry, of Lakeland, FL, and Peter E. LaVenture of Ashby; his daughter, Suzanne L. Cannon and her husband, Todd, of Leominster; 10 grandchildren, Justin LaVenture, Amanda LaVenture, Jessica Armbruster, Kevin Cannon, Katie Cannon, Courtnay LaVenture, Benjamin Cannon, Lukas LaVenture, Michelle Bluemer and Melissa Bluemer; and 14 great-grandchildren.
LaVENTURE -- The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg with an 11:00 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St. Burial is in St. Cecilia's Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lymphoma Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
