Brenda Ellen Huey

Obituary Condolences

formerly of Fitchburg, gifted artist; 69

Brenda Ellen Huey, 69, a gifted artist, of Granby, CT, and Provincetown, MA, let life bubble up around her with art, music, food, culture and humor.

Beset in recent years by Sjögren's Syndrome, Brenda died peacefully at home Tuesday morning, June 8th, 2010 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was the beloved wife of Martin Stewart Huey, Jr. for 48 years, who passed away earlier this year from complications of colon cancer. The only child of the late Tauno "Tuna" and Ellen Tastula, she is survived by her three children, Stewart (Los Angeles, CA), Kristen Mattson (Granby, CT) and Peter (Brewster, MA); as well as her granddaughter, Isabella Mattson (Granby, CT). She attended Fitchburg High School, graduating in 1959, and attended Boston University to study music.

A talented musician, she played piano, viola, cello, flute, trumpet and a violin crafted by her uncle. She was also a singer with the voice of an angel. Though painting was her biggest passion, Brenda explored a variety of artistic media including stained glass, jewelry, glass mosaic, and needlepoint.

HUEY -- Funeral Services will be held Sunday, June 13th, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church St, Tariffville, CT. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Brenda's life was enriched by the remarkable team at the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave. Hartford, CT 06106 and McLean Home, Hospice Program, 75 Great Pond Rd. Simsbury, CT 06070. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either facility. Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home in Granby is in charge of arrangements.
