BREWSTER -- Alex B. Haas, 18, of Brewster, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born in Hyannis on June 7, 1987, the son of Stephen and Bonnie (Beaulieu) Haas of Brewster. He attended Stony Brook and Eddy elementary schools, and later Nauset Regional Middle School. While attending Nauset Regional High School, he played percussion in concert band, and participated in a variety of extracurriculars such as French Club and Nauset Cares Community Servie. He served the Boy Scouts of America as a junior assistant scoutmaster and a senior patrol leader, in addition to becoming an Eagle Scout.

He loved sailing, snowboarding, and spending time on the outer beach in Orleans. He began sailing at Cape Cod Sea Camps and - a decade later - was named to the Cape and Islands All-Star teams for swimming and sailing.

Mr. Haas was also a budding entrepreneur, running a yacht management and detailing business and a landscaping operation. He also worked at the Trampoline Center and Cape Water Sports in Harwich Port.

He had planned to attend Massachusetts Maritime Academy next month. He wanted to become the captain of a ship.

Mr. Haas is survived by his parents, Stephen and Bonnie (Beaulieu) Haas of Brewster; his maternal grandfather, John Beaulieu of Dracut; a brother, Matthew Haas of Brewster; several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.

A memorial Mass was held on Aug. 17. Burial is private. The Coutinho-Boisse Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
