FITCHBURG, MA -- Richard James "Dickie" Holland, 62 of Fitchburg, MA passed away Saturday, June 9th at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Fitchburg on December 17, 1949 to the late John and Gertrude (Nelson) Holland.
Rich entered the military after graduating from Fitchburg High School in 1967, where he got his associates degree in criminology. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1989 and was a veteran of the Vietnam Era. Most of those years were spent overseas in Germany. He finished his career as a corrections officer at MCI Shirley.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brigitte Mueller Holland and his daughters Angela and her husband Jay Arsenault, Diana and her husband George Germaine of Fitchburg and Yvonne Holland of Gardner. He leaves his three grandsons, Jeremy and Daniel Arsenault and George Germaine Jr. He leaves one brother John and his wife Julie Holland of Edgewater, FL and his sister Judith Holland of Fitchburg. He was predeceased by his sister Mary (Holland) Quinn and brother Thomas Holland. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
His passions included playing lead guitar in multiple bands, both in Europe and the U.S., playing cribbage, but most of all spending time with his family. He was also a member of the South End National Club in Fitchburg.
HOLLAND -- The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 12:30 P.M. Burial will follow in the MA Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. There are no calling hours.
