Mary Kinnane (Hackett) Shaver

Obituary Condolences


LEOMINSTER -- Mary Kinnane (Hackett) Shaver, 89, died Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley after a brief illness.

She was the wife for over 50 years, of the late Arthur T. Shaver who died September 4, 2011.

She leaves one son Michael A. Shaver of Leominster, a daughter-in-law Margaret Shaver of Clinton, a grandson Patrick Shaver and his wife Danielle, of Milford, a granddaughter Colleen Shaver of Worcester, two great-grandsons Charles Shaver and Henry Shaver, a sister Dorothy M. Hunt of North Dartmouth, nine nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews.

She is also predeceased by her son John Shaver who died December 28, 2006, and her brother John C. Hackett.

Mary was born in Fitchburg on May 22, 1923 the third child and second daughter of the late John C. and Elizabeth C. (Flynn) Hackett. She was a longtime resident of Fitchburg and Leominster. She graduated from St. Bernards Central Catholic High School, Class of 1940. After high school she worked for a number of years at New England Telephone. When she married, as a military wife, she traveled and lived in Stuttgart Germany, Ankara Turkey and Vint Hill Station, Virginia. Returning to this area in 1970 while her husband served in Viet Nam she became a Bank Manager for the former Shawmut Bank.

She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, a member of the NCO Wives Club, a longtime member of Our Lady of the Lake Church, She volunteered each week at the Church for over 25 years. As a Bank Manager she became a member of the Fitchburg Chamber of Commerce.

She was an expert knitter and loved her scratch tickets and had the luck necessary to win. She was witty, funny, she loved a good laugh, and will be missed by all of her friends especially Diane DeGregorio, and Mike and Elaine Hackett who have been so kind to her. She especially loved her grandchildren.

SHAVER -- Her Funeral will be held from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli and the Fitchburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 243 Water Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420 on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church 1400 Main Street, Leominster, MA 01453.

Interment will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 GlenAllen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.

Calling Hours will be in the Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 4:00 -- 7:00 p.m.
