LEOMINSTER -- Veronica M.L. "Ronnie" (Gonyor) Belanger, 83, of Leominster, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in the Sterling Village, after a long illness.
Ronnie was born in Fitchburg, on Sept. 11, 1929, a daughter of the late, Ernest and Rose (Montville) Gonyor, and was raised by her uncle and aunt, Edward and Beatrice McKenna.
She attended St. Bernard's High School before joining the New England Telephone Company where she worked as an operator and later a supervisor. She was one of the first operators, in this area, that connected a trans-atlantic phone call.
For several years, she worked alongside her husband at Ronnie's Café, until her family became her full-time job. She loved her family, always putting them first. She also loved her home, especially her gardens in which she created beautiful landscapes and memories.
Ronnie was a highly active member of her parish, Our Lady of the Lake, and gave of her time to support many parish members and the church's charitable events. She was an active member of Oak Hill Country Club and Monoosnoc Country Club, where she learned to love the game of golf. She participated in many social and golf events at each. She was also a longtime active member of the Emblem Club and was past president of this auxiliary.
Her husband of 44 years, Raymond J. Belanger, died in 1998. She leaves two sons, Martin J. Belanger of Shirley, and Christopher J. Belanger of Ashby; two daughters, Marianne P. Rogers of Lunenburg, and Catherine J. Cormier of Leominster; a sister, Patricia Belanger of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by two brothers, Paul Gonyor and Francis Gonyor, and two sisters, Virginia Crepeau and Barbara Gonyor.
BELANGER -- Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St. Burial will be in the St. Bernard's Cemetery in Fitchburg. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, from 5 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster, MA 01453.
