LEOMINSTER/FITCHBURG -- Sophie A. Pratt of Leominster and Fitchburg, died peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Sterling Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.
Sophie was the eldest child of Angelo and Alice (Goullis) Ghenes, who emigrated to the United States from Greece. Born in Fitchburg, Sophie graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1938 and from Becker College in 1940.
Sophie was employed at the General Electric Company, as a secretary, retiring in 1982, after 36 years of service. She was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Laurelwoods Garden Club, the Girl Scouts of America, Burbank Hospital Guild and the Fitchburg Art Museum.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Herbert Pratt; a sister, Bella Wilkenbach of Dennisport, MA, a nephew, John Ghenes, Jr. of Paso Robles, CA and a step-daughter, Linda Pratt of Nashua, NH.
Sophie enjoyed travelling, including trips to Greece, Albania and Italy, plus many trips to Canada. After her retirement, she and her husband often visited Florida in the winter months.
Sophie was predeceased by her parents, two brothers - Alexander and John Ghenes, Sr.
PRATT -- Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 9:30- 11AM at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1419 Main Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420, with a service beginning at 11AM. Burial to follow after the service at Forest Hill Cemetery with a luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
