ASHBURNHAM -- Dorothy V. (King) Vissers, 93, of Ashburnham, died peacefully Tuesday evening, January 8, 2012, in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, after an illness.

Dorothy was born in Fitchburg, November 25, 1919, a daughter of the late Robert D. and Ruth A. (Willett) King, and has lived in Ashburnham most of her life.

Her beloved husband,John Vissers a World War II Veteran, died in 1990.

As a child, Dorothy enjoyed Girl Scouts. Dorothy attended Cushing Academy and Stevens Business College in Fitchburg. Dorothy worked for Simonds Saw and Steel, and prior to her retirement, she worked for Ashburnham Municipal Light Plant for 17 years.

She was longtime member of the Ashburnham Community Church, and the Ashburnham Senior Center. For many years, Dorothy was a fixture at the many functions, suppers, fairs, and fundraisers for the church. Dorothy was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Ashburnham Community Church and sang in the Church Choir.

Dorothy will be sadly missed by one daughter; Jane E. Dancause of Ashburnham; one sister; Eula K. Buckwalter of Ashburnham; four grandchildren; Matthew and Jane O'Hanley, and Theodore and Nicole Dancause; and many niece and nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by two daughters, Linda Vissers and Cynthia V. O'Hanley, two brothers, Edward and Robert King, and two sisters, Eleanor King, and Florence H. Marsaw.

VISSERS -- Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate Dorothy's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Community Chapel of Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner, on Monday January 14, 2013, from 4-7 PM. Her funeral service will be held in the Ashburnham Community Church, 9 Chapel St., Ashburnham, on Tuesday January 15, 2013, beginning at 10 AM. Rev. Russell Grant will officiate. Burial will be in New Cemetery, Ashburnham in the spring. Should friends desire, donations in Dorothy's name may be made to the Ashburnham Community Church, PO BOX 929, Ashburnham, MA 01430 or to the William J.
