FITCHBURG -- George F. "Doc" Blanchard, of Fitchburg, died Sunday in his home. He went to join his wife of 56 years, Gloria Blanchard, who died in December. George is survived by three sons and two daughters: Stephen Blanchard and wife Sandra of Pelham NH, Andrew Blanchard and wife Jane of Pelham NH, Gary Blanchard and Kelly Proctor of Rindge NH, Cynthia Zingarello and husband Mark of Morrisville NC and Patricia Blanchard Herrin and husband George of Hampstead NC and eleven grandchildren.
George was born in Florida on January 27, 1930, son of Carlton and Etta (Monroe) Blanchard. He moved to Leominster as a young boy and graduated from Leominster High School in 1947. He served in the Air Force during the Berlin Airlift and earned the Occupation Medal while in Germany. George then worked for 45 years for New England Telephone, where he also served as Union President - before happily retiring to travel and enjoy time with his family.
George loved his family above all else and will be greatly missed. He enjoyed a beer by the pool and was an avid sailor.
BLANCHARD -- A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 2 pm in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Attn: Donation, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or the HealthAlliance Home Hospice, 25 Tucker Drive, Leominster, MA 01453.
