FITCHBURG -- Edgar J. Melanson, 94, of Fitchburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, in Leominster Hospital.
Edgar was born in St. Antoine, New Brunswick, Canada on October 6, 1918, a son of the late Jaddus "John" and Osithe "Rose" (Allain) Melanson.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII.
He worked for nearly 30 years as a paper maker and machine tender for the former James River, Weyerhaeuser, and Crocker Burbank Paper Company.
Edgar loved and took great joy in all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was always a kind and gentle soul to everyone he met.
He leaves his loving wife of 65 years, Rita (Legros) Melanson; children, Pauline Ippolito and husband, Richard of Washington, DC, Lionel Melanson and wife, Denise of Lunenburg, Jane Melanson of Danbury, NH, Ronald Melanson and wife, Jo-Anne of Townsend, Denise Henault-Mulloy and husband, Daniel of Fitchburg; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Dupuis of Bolton; brothers, Leo Melanson of Gardner, and Norman Melanson of Port Charlotte, FL.
Edgar was predeceased by his son Raymond Melanson in 1974.
MELANSON -- The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Saturday, March 2, 2013 with a Mass in St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the Mass on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 AM in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph Parish, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
