FITCHBURG -- Margrit (Bakaysa) Koula, 72, of Fitchburg, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 in the Life Care Center of Leominster surrounded by her loving family.
Margrit was born in Hamburg, Germany on March 12, 1941, the only daughter of the late Emerick and Anita (Wulff) Bakaysa. She graduated from Lunenburg High School with the class of 1960. Margrit was a homemaker while her seven children were young. After they were grown, she worked as a Sales Supervisor for Rich's Department store for 20 years until her retirement in 1997.
In her spare time, Margrit loved to play cards with her Aunt Helga and Cousins Inge and Patty. She was a member of the Fitchburg Elks, where she enjoyed Bingo with her numerous friends. She loved shopping trips with her daughters, especially their annual Christmas shopping get together.
Margrit was the true matriarch of her family, strong and kind hearted. She loved and adored nothing more than her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. They brought her a special joy, even throughout her sickness. Her love for hosting family gatherings and barbeques will always be fondly remembered, as well as her perfect attendance and early arrival for every party and celebration. She was loved by all who knew her and will be forever missed.
She leaves her loving children, Ellen Mahon and husband Raymond of Fitchburg, Thomas Koula Jr. and wife Jeannie of Arkansas, Robert Koula and wife Gail of Fitchburg, Lisa Melanson and husband John of Fitchburg, Victoria Terho and husband Christopher of Fitchburg, Christopher Koula of Fitchburg, Michael Koula and wife Mandy of Gardner; 19 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dieter Bergner and wife Diane of FL, Juergen Bergner of WA, Toby Bakaysa of Lunenburg; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
KOULA -- The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg, on Thursday, March 28 at 11:30 AM. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:30-11:30 in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the Life Care Center Activity Fund, 370 West St., Leominster, MA 01453.
