THE VILLAGES, Florida -- Richard J. Egan, 96, of The Villages, Florida, was born November 29, 1916 in Medford, Massachusetts and died April 1, 2013 under Hospice care in Lecanto, Florida.
Mr. Egan was a US Army Veteran who proudly served during WWII.
He was a longtime resident of Fitchburg, Massachusetts where he owned PJ Egan and Sons Plumbing and Heating Co. He was a former Airport Commissioner, Past President of the Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and member of the American Legion. He moved to The Villages in 1976 from Fitchburg where he resided until his death.
Survivors include: sons, Edward William Egan (June) and Robert Brian Egan (Louise); daughter, Kathy Lee Hildebrandt (Richard); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Healey and Irene Weldon; and dearest friend and companion, Mickey Drummond.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy McBride Egan in 1996, four grandchildren: Michael Egan, Mark Egan, Brian Leger and Scott Egan; four siblings, Gertrude Garvey, Virginia Hoey, Joseph Egan and Barbara Sullivan.
EGAN -- Graveside services including Military Honors will be held on Thursday April 4, 2013 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at 12:30 PM. For those who wish and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Citrus County, PO Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464.
