of Fitchburg; 68

FITCHBURG -- Clyde B. Freeman Sr., 68, of Fitchburg died Saturday, November 9, 2013 peacefully, at his residence after a lengthy struggle with cancer.

Mr. Freeman was born in Newburyport, July 18, 1945, one of 11 children born to Fred and Josie (Bogrett) Freeman and resided twenty years in Jacksonville, Florida before moving here in 2002.

He attended the Town of Beverly school system and later continued his education at Johnson & Wales University where he majored in culinary arts.

Before retiring in 1983, Mr. Freeman served his country for over 20 years in the United States Navy. During that time he was assigned to submarine service.

Following his discharge from the armed forces, Mr. Freeman worked in the maintenance department in the North Middlesex Regional School District. Much of his time was spent at the high school in Townsend where he was fondly known for his wonderful sense of humor.

As a result of his working in the schools, Mr. Freeman was frequently asked to share his career experiences with students about his many years of living and working on a Navy submarine.

He was a member of the Townsend VFW.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Barbara L. (Moore) Freeman; his son, Clyde B. Freeman Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida; six brothers, four sisters, several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Joan Moore of Fitchburg, Sharon Beauchemin and her husband, Alan of Fitchburg.
