SHIRLEY -- Phyllis J. (Holmes) DeVarney, 65, of Shirley, died peacefully Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at her home with her family at her bedside.

Mrs. DeVarney was born in Waltham, November 15, 1949, the eldest of four children born to Warren Holmes and the late Nancy (Chamberlain) Holmes and resided most of her life in Shirley. She was a graduate of Ayer High School.

Most recently, she worked at NET Variety in Shirley. She enjoyed working there and greeted everyone with her beautiful smile. For many years, she had worked at Digital Equipment Corporation and General Electric Corporation. She very much enjoyed spending time with her family.

Besides her father of Florida, she leaves her husband of 48 years, Joseph R. DeVarney; two daughters, Kim L. Shorey of NH, Karen L. Shorey and her husband, Larry of Shirley; her brother, Mitch Holmes and his wife, Karen, of Centerville; her sister Sandra O'Connor and her husband, Joseph of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Edward DeVarney and his wife, Gloria of Mexico, Charles Brindle of Florida; a grandson, Derek Shorey of Shirley; a granddaughter, Brittani J. Shorey of Georgia; her goddaughter and niece, Jennifer DeVarney Aiesi of Fitchburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Janet Brindle of Florida.
